Simpson Washing Machine Specialists
Simpson Washing Machine Repairs for Every Model We See in Sydney
Simpson is a well-known Australian washing machine brand, and the machines are known for lasting. Many are still in daily use well past ten years old. At that age, whether a repair is worth doing is the real question, and it’s one we answer honestly before you spend anything.
We repair Simpson washing machines across Sydney, from Blacktown, Penrith, South West Sydney and St George. We are an independent repairer, not Simpson. For other brands, see our washing machine repairs in Sydney page, or our Electrolux and LG washing machine pages.
Simpson top loaders
The classic Australian washer. Lid switches, drain pumps, drive belts, couplings and agitator faults are the usual calls.
Simpson front loaders
Newer machines with a door seal, a door lock and bearings. Drain, lock and leak faults come up most.
Twin-tub and older automatic models
Still working in granny flats and garages. Parts are harder to find, so we say honestly what is practical.
Washer-dryers and compact Simpson units
Smaller machines for units and flats. Drain and heating faults are the common repairs.
Simpson machines fifteen years or older
We see plenty. Many are worth repairing, and some have had their day. You get a straight answer on the day.
Common Faults
Common Simpson Washing Machine Problems and What Causes Them
The faults we see most on Simpson washing machines, and what's usually behind them.
Won't drain or stops with water in the drum
On most Simpson washers this is the drain pump or a blocked hose, and on top loaders a lint-clogged filter. We clear the blockage and test the pump before suggesting a replacement.
Won't agitate or spin properly
If the drum fills but doesn't agitate, or the spin is weak, the drive belt, motor coupling or the lid switch is usually responsible. Older top loaders can also have a worn transmission.
Leaking from the bottom or the front
Water under the machine can be a split hose, a worn tub seal or a pump that isn't sealing. On a front loader, the door seal is the first thing to check.
Banging, grinding or a very loud spin
An unlevel base and worn suspension are the simple causes. A grinding rumble that grows with speed usually means worn bearings, which is the repair that's hardest to justify on an old machine.
Won't start or stops mid-cycle
A machine that won't start can have a faulty lid switch, door lock, timer or control board. One that stops mid-cycle may be struggling to fill or drain, or has a heating or sensor fault.
Slow fill, no water or overflowing
A blocked inlet filter, a tired inlet valve or a pressure switch fault can cause too little or too much water. We test the water path before replacing parts.
Symptoms & Causes
Simpson Washing Machine Problems: Symptom to Likely Cause
A quick guide to what each symptom usually means. We confirm the real cause before any part is replaced.
| What you notice | What it points to | Usually caused by |
|---|---|---|
| Fills, but won't agitate | The drive isn't turning the agitator | A worn belt, a broken coupling or a faulty lid switch |
| Won't drain | Water can't leave the drum | A blocked filter or hose, or a failed drain pump |
| Weak spin, clothes still wet | The final spin isn't reaching speed | A slipping belt, a weak motor or a drain problem |
| Leaks underneath | Water is escaping from a seal or hose | A split hose, a worn tub seal or a loose pump |
| Won't start at all | Power or control isn't reaching the cycle | A lid or door switch, a timer or control board fault |
| Machine walks across the floor | The drum is badly out of balance | An unlevel base, an uneven load or worn suspension |

Before You Call
Find Your Simpson Model Number and Try These Safe Checks
Where to find the model number
On most Simpson washers the model label is on the back of the machine, or inside the lid or door frame. Model numbers often start with letters such as SWT for top loaders or SWF for front loaders, followed by numbers. A photo of the label saves time, and so does knowing roughly how old the machine is.
Safe checks you can do yourself
- Make sure the machine is plugged in, the tap is on and the lid or door is closed properly.
- Clean the lint filter and the drain pump filter if your model has one, with a towel ready.
- Check the drain hose is not kinked or pushed too far down the standpipe.
- Redistribute the load if it's bunched on one side, and make sure the machine is level.
- Look for water under the machine or damp at the back of the tub.
- Note the model and roughly how old the machine is before you call.
Repair Or Replace
Is It Worth Repairing a Simpson Washing Machine?
Many Simpson washers are worth repairing, even when they're ten years old. If the fix is well under half the price of a new washer and parts are available, repair it.
Usually worth fixing
- The machine is working normally apart from one failed part
- The fault is a pump, belt, lid switch, hose, seal or inlet valve
- The repair costs well under half a similar new washer
- Parts are available for the model
Think twice when
- The bearings or tub are failing on a very old machine
- The transmission or motor has failed on a machine past 15 years
- Several parts are worn out at once
- The repair costs close to a new washer
Age and parts availability decide most Simpson repairs. A pump, a belt or a lid switch is usually a sensible fix. A worn transmission or bearings on a very old machine often isn’t. If it’s fairly new, check your warranty first. Otherwise the $190 call-out gets you an honest answer on the day, and we don’t publish a parts price list because prices vary by model, so you hear the exact price before anything is fitted. Got Questions?
Simpson Washing Machine Repair FAQs
How much does a Simpson washing machine repair cost in Sydney?
The call-out is a flat $190 and covers the diagnosis and all of the labour. If a part is needed, you're told its price before it's fitted. Plenty of faults, like a blocked filter or a kinked hose, need no part, so $190 is the whole bill.
Do you have a Simpson washing machine repair price list?
We don't publish a parts price list, because the price of a drain pump, belt or switch depends on the model. The $190 call-out is fixed. Call with the model and the fault and we'll tell you the likely part cost before you book.
Can you repair my Simpson washing machine today?
Often, yes. Call early, tell us the model and what the machine is doing, and we'll offer the earliest time. We take bookings round the clock, including after-hours repairs.
Why won't my Simpson washer drain?
The usual cause is a blocked filter or hose, or a failing drain pump. Cleaning the filter and checking the hose is a good first step. If water still won't drain, the pump probably needs testing, which we can do on the day.
Why does my Simpson fill with water but not agitate?
On a top loader, the usual causes are a worn drive belt, a broken motor coupling or a faulty lid switch. We test each before replacing anything, because they are all different repairs.
Why is my Simpson washer not spinning properly?
A weak spin can come from a slipping belt, a weak motor, an unbalanced load, or water that can't drain. We check the drain first, then the drive.
Why is my Simpson washing machine leaking?
Water underneath is commonly a split hose, a worn tub seal or a loose pump. On a front loader, the door seal is the first place to look. We find where it starts before ordering a part.
My Simpson is 15 years old. Is it worth repairing?
It depends on the fault. A pump, belt or lid switch is usually still a sensible repair. A worn transmission, motor or bearings often isn't. We'll give you an honest answer on site and won't push a repair that isn't worth it.
Where can I find the model number on a Simpson washer?
Look on the back of the machine or inside the lid or door frame. Many Simpson model numbers begin with SWT for top loaders or SWF for front loaders. Take a photo and have it ready when you call.
Are you a Simpson authorised service agent?
No, we're an independent repairer. If your machine is under warranty, contact the retailer or the manufacturer first. If it isn't, we'll come out.
Where do you repair Simpson washing machines?
Across Sydney, including the CBD, Inner West, Eastern Suburbs, North Shore, Northern Beaches, Parramatta, Blacktown, Penrith, the Hills, South West, St George and the Sutherland Shire.
What warranty comes with the repair, and is the $190 charged if I don't proceed?
Every repair has a 2-year warranty on the invoice. The $190 covers the visit and diagnosis, so it applies even if you decide against the repair, and you still get a clear answer.
