Fisher & Paykel Fridge Repairs for Every Model We See in Sydney
Fisher & Paykel fridges are popular in Australian kitchens, and theythey're built to lastrsquo;re built to last, but they do develop the same handful of faults. A fridge that slowly stops cooling, a freezer that ices up, an alarm that won’t stop beeping, a leak under the crisper or an ice maker that has stopped are the calls we get most. Most are a fan, a defrost part, a sensor or a seal, and most are fixed on the first visit.
We repair Fisher & Paykel fridges across Sydney, from the North Shore and the Eastern Suburbs to Parramatta and the Hills District. We are an independent repairer, not Fisher & Paykel. If your fridge is still under warranty, contact the manufacturer first. If it isn’t, we’ll come out. For other brands, see our fridge repairs in Sydney page, or our LG fridge repairs page. Bottom-mount fridges
Fridge on top, freezer drawer below. This is the most common Fisher & Paykel layout we repair, and the usual calls are cooling faults, freezer ice-up and door seals.
French-door fridges
Two doors on top and a freezer drawer below, often with an ice and water dispenser. Ice maker, filter and dispenser faults come up often.
Quad-door fridges
Four-door models with separate compartments. More doors and seals mean more places for air to leak and for alarms to sound.
Side-by-side fridges
Tall fridge and freezer side by side. Frosted vents, noisy fans and dispenser faults are the common reasons we're called.
Top-mount fridges
Freezer on top, fridge below. Simple, hardworking models where fans, defrost parts and seals do most of the failing.
Common Faults
Common Fisher & Paykel Fridge Problems and What Causes Them
The faults we see most on Fisher & Paykel fridges, and what's usually behind them.
Fisher & Paykel fridge not cooling
A fridge that slowly gets warmer, or cools unevenly, is often a fan, a damper or a frosted evaporator rather than the compressor. If both fridge and freezer are warm, we check the condenser fan, the start components and the compressor, in that order, before recommending anything expensive.
Freezer icing up
Frost on the back wall, ice around the drawer or a freezer that struggles to hold temperature means the defrost cycle has stopped. The defrost heater, the defrost sensor or the control board is normally behind it, and a blocked drain makes it worse.
Water leaks and dispenser faults
Water under the crisper drawers or on the floor usually comes from a blocked defrost drain, a loose water line or a filter housing that isn't sealing. A dispenser that has stopped or dribbles is normally a blocked filter or a faulty inlet valve.
Beeping, buzzing or rattling
A door alarm is usually a seal or alignment problem. A rattle is often a fan hitting frost or a loose blade, and a louder hum from the back can be the compressor working hard because of an airflow or defrost fault. Don't ignore a new noise.
Ice maker problems
No ice, small ice or a jammed tray. The usual causes are a frozen fill tube, a blocked filter, a faulty inlet valve or an ice maker module that has failed. Check the filter and the freezer temperature first.
Control board and sensor faults
A fridge that cycles oddly, freezes food or won't hold a temperature can have a failing thermistor or control board. We test the sensor and the wiring before we replace the board, which is often unnecessary.
Alarms & Lights
Fisher & Paykel Fridge Alarms and Lights: What They Usually Mean
Models differ, so check your manual if yours behaves differently. If an alarm keeps coming back, call us.
| What you see or hear | What it points to | Usually caused by |
|---|---|---|
| Door alarm beeping | A door has been left open or isn't sealing | A door that isn't closing fully, a worn seal or a hinge that has dropped |
| Temperature alarm | The fridge or freezer has warmed up | A door left open, a power cut, or a cooling or defrost fault if it keeps returning |
| Water filter light | The filter is due for replacement | A used filter. A new filter normally clears it, and a blocked filter can slow the dispenser |
| Fridge too cold or food freezing | Too much cold air reaching the fridge side | A stuck air damper or a faulty temperature sensor |
| Flashing lights or a dead display | A control or power problem | A loose connection, a power surge or a failing control board |

Before You Call
Find Your Fisher & Paykel Model Number and Try These Safe Checks
Where to find the model number
On most Fisher & Paykel fridges there’s a rating label on the inside wall of the fridge section or behind the crisper drawers, and some models also have it on the back. Model numbers usually start with letters such as E, RF, RS or N, followed by numbers and letters. Take a photo of the label and have it ready when you call, with any alarm or light you can see. It helps us bring the right parts.
Safe checks you can do yourself
- Check the fridge is set to about 3 to 5°C and the freezer to -18°C.
- Make sure nothing is blocking the vents inside, and that the door closes fully.
- Wipe the door seals and check they grip a sheet of paper.
- Leave a few centimetres of space behind and beside the fridge for airflow.
- Look for frost at the back of the freezer and water under the crisper drawers.
- Note any alarm or flashing light and take a photo of the display before you call.
Repair Or Replace
Is It Worth Repairing a Fisher & Paykel Fridge?
Most of the time, yes. If the fix costs well under half the price of a similar new fridge and it's under ten years old, repair it.
Usually worth fixing
- One part has failed, like a fan, sensor, heater, seal or board
- The fridge is under about ten years old
- The repair is well under half the price of a similar new fridge
- It was cooling fine until recently
Think twice when
- A sealed-system fault or refrigerant leak on an older fridge
- Several expensive parts failing at once
- A fridge past 12 to 15 years and running hard
- The repair costs close to a new fridge
Check your paperwork before you pay for a major repair, in case the manufacturer's warranty still applies. The $190 call-out gets you a straight answer on the day, and you only pay for a part if you go ahead. See how our pricing works, or our fridge repairs page for other brands.

Got Questions?
Fisher & Paykel Fridge Repair FAQs
How much does a Fisher & Paykel fridge repair cost in Sydney?
It's a flat $190 call-out that covers the visit, the diagnosis and all of the labour, plus the price of a part if your fridge needs one. Some faults, like a frosted vent or a blocked defrost drain, need no part at all, so $190 is the whole bill. When a part is needed, you hear its price before it's fitted.
Can you repair my Fisher & Paykel fridge today?
Often, yes. Ring as early in the day as you can, tell us it's a Fisher & Paykel and what it's doing, and we'll give you the earliest time. We take bookings 24 hours a day and do after-hours repairs too. Until we arrive, keep the doors shut and move anything you can't afford to lose into an esky with ice.
Why is my Fisher & Paykel fridge not cooling?
The common causes are a failed evaporator or condenser fan, a stuck air damper, a frosted-over evaporator from a defrost fault, or a faulty temperature sensor. A compressor fault is less common than people fear, so it's worth getting a diagnosis before you assume the worst.
Why is the freezer on my Fisher & Paykel fridge icing up?
Ice on the back wall or around the drawer usually means the defrost cycle has stopped. The defrost heater, the defrost sensor or the control board is normally behind it, and a blocked drain makes it worse. Thawing the fridge only clears the ice for a while, so it's worth having the cause found.
Why does my Fisher & Paykel fridge keep beeping?
A door alarm normally means a door isn't closing fully or the seal has worn, and a temperature alarm means the fridge or freezer has warmed up. If the alarm keeps returning after you've closed the door properly, there's a seal, alignment or cooling fault that needs a look.
My Fisher & Paykel fridge is leaking water. What should I check?
Water under the crisper drawers or at the back is usually a blocked defrost drain, and water at the front can be a filter housing that isn't sealing or a loose water line. Check that the water filter is seated properly, and call us if it keeps leaking. Water near the controls needs attention quickly.
My ice maker or water dispenser has stopped. Can you fix it?
Usually, yes. The common causes are a frozen fill tube, a blocked or overdue water filter, a faulty inlet valve or a failed ice maker module. Replace the filter if it's due and check the freezer is cold enough, and if the problem continues, call us.
Do you repair French-door, quad-door and bottom-mount models?
Yes. We repair bottom-mount, French-door, quad-door, side-by-side and top-mount Fisher & Paykel fridges. Tell us the model number when you call, and take a photo of the rating label to help us bring the right parts.
Are you a Fisher & Paykel authorised service agent?
No. We're an independent repairer. If your Fisher & Paykel fridge is still under warranty, contact the manufacturer first. If the warranty has ended, or the fault isn't covered, we'll repair it where it stands.
Where in Sydney do you repair Fisher & Paykel fridges?
Across the whole of metropolitan Sydney, including the CBD and Inner City, Inner West, Eastern Suburbs, North Shore, Northern Beaches, Parramatta, Blacktown, Penrith, the Hills District, South West Sydney, St George and the Sutherland Shire.
What warranty do I get on a Fisher & Paykel fridge repair?
Every repair carries a 2-year warranty. Keep your invoice, and if the same fault comes back within that time, call us. Plenty of Sydney repairers offer 90 days to 12 months, so two years goes well beyond the usual.
Do I still pay the $190 if I decide not to go ahead?
Yes. The $190 covers the technician's visit and the diagnosis, so it applies whether or not you go ahead. You still finish with a clear answer on what's wrong and what it would cost to fix.
